What is DTF printing?
A closer look at the process that turns full-color artwork into a print you can wear.
Read the story
DTF stands for Direct to Film. A design is printed onto a special film, prepared with a heat-activated adhesive, and transferred onto a garment using a heat press. The carrier film is then removed according to the transfer supplier’s instructions.
It can reproduce multicolor artwork, lettering and detailed graphics. Compatible transfers work with a range of fabrics, including cotton, polyester and blends, but the garment and transfer must be suitable for each other.
For a good starting point, use a sharp design at its intended print size. Fine details, fabric texture and the size of a solid print area all affect the finished look and feel.
Applying transfers yourself? Follow the exact temperature, pressure, time and peel instructions supplied with your transfer. Settings vary by product.
